The requirement for commercial and residential premises to meet certain standards when it comes to strength in an earthquake is becoming increasingly important, says Rodney Caldow.
“We have a great engineer so we are able to go in and give a detailed report on a building. We have our own cranes and Hiabs so we can do the lifting and strengthening work ourselves; we don’t have to outsource.”
Caldow Builders has brought a number of commercial buildings up to the required standard, including the Hammer Hardware store in Foxton. Residential customers most often want chimneys removed to avoid them falling and causing more damage in an earthquake.
